The Justice Minister, Bridget Prentice, last week confirmed that she is looking at ways to increase the take-up of mediation in divorce cases.  She argued that mediation can be helpful particularly where there are cases involving children.

This would raise the need to trainer mediators, who are often but not necessarily family lawyers.

There is significant opposition to this, particularly from Baroness Deech, who has declared that mediation is not suitable in cases where couples are fundamentally opposed to it.
