UK motorists have celebrated a landmark victory with the government moving to cut rising insurance premiums by banning insurance companies from selling their customers’ details to solicitors.
After several months of pressure, some experts think that the average driver could potentially save up to £150 a year in insurance premiums.
Critics say that the fees, which can average £800 per claim, have contributed to a mounting increase in personal injury claims, leading insurers to increase premiums to cover their extra costs.
According to the AA, the average motor premium rose by more than 40 per cent during the year to April.
The government is also planning to clamp down on no-win, no-fee lawyers to recoup their costs through insurance policies, by making Claimants more liable if they lose a case.
