Hospitals and NHS Trusts in Devon and Cornwall have been forced to pay out more than £17 million in clinical and medical negligence cases in a single year, as the number of claims nationally is on the rise.

Figures kept by the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA), which manages most compensation claims against hospitals and health trusts across the country, reveal the extent of claims against West Country organisations.
