Forensic Claims

Many types of claims require forensic accountancy expertise to ensure a fair outcome. For over 40 years, our forensic claims experts have worked with the UK’s leading legal practitioners, helping them to get to the heart of the financial aspects of their client’s cases. As experienced forensic accountants, we can analyse vast amounts of data quickly and efficiently, and we present our findings in a clear, uncomplicated manner to assist our clients in reaching a beneficial settlement of their issue or at trial.

What Types Of Issues Do Our Forensic Accountants Assist With?

We work closely with clients and their legal advisors to determine the facts, evaluate the data and develop a robust dispute resolution strategy. Often, our insight enables matters to be settled without Court proceedings, but if a claim does proceed to trial, we will be with you every step of the way to provide guidance and advice on the financial aspects of the case.

We have vast experience in a wide range of practice areas, including the following:

• Personal injury

The quantum aspect of a personal injury claim can be complex and hard-fought. Even if a Defendant or their insurers accept liability, the question of how much a Claimant has lost can be a complicated matter and requires the appropriate level of expertise.

Personal injury litigation is at the heart of our practice. We have specialised in this work since inception and we regularly support legal advisors acting for both Claimants and Defendants to assess the losses sustained as a result of the accident or negligence that gave rise to the claim. Our expertise is particularly valuable in cases involving complex loss of earnings and pension losses claims. We use our own in-house Frenkels Calculator, into which we have distilled our decades of experience, to simplify and analyse extensive data and compare unlimited scenarios in just minutes. We can assist our clients with calculations, desktop reports or fully CPR compliant reports.

• Crime and Fraud

Our renowned crime and fraud team is led by our data analysis and IT expert, Marc Clifton. Marc and his team regularly support solicitors and barristers to uncover the true extent of a crime or fraud. We do so by carefully analysing the reports prepared by the CPS for inconsistencies or inaccuracies and following funds through a myriad of bank statements and other financial documentation to clearly and decisively identify any proceeds of crime.

We are well-known for developing innovative techniques and technologies to assist us in analysing huge amounts of electronic data and ensuring our results are comprehensive and accurate.

• Divorce

Often, one of the most stressful issues to arise in divorce proceedings is how the couple’s assets should be divided. The problem can become even more complicated if it appears that one partner may not be disclosing their true financial position. Our forensic accountants regularly assist legal advisors advising clients involved in divorce proceedings to value business assets and determine what one the party’s actual financial position may be.

Our other areas of expertise include business valuations, commercial matters, and tax. We also provide general forensic accountancy advice as required.

How Can Our Forensic Accountants Assist?

Our sole aim is to add real value to our client’s dispute resolution strategy. The value of our contributions stems not only from our forensic accountancy expertise and experience, but also from our deep understanding of legal principles and procedures, industry know-how and IT capabilities. Our skills enable us to understand not just the figures behind a case, but also to consider them in the context of the issue at hand. We understand our client’s needs, and present our findings in a clear, meaningful way to assist them, their legal advisors and, where necessary, the Judge, in understanding the financial aspects of a case, and our client’s position. Our forensic accountants think outside the box. We do not consider ourselves bound by the information we are presented with, but instead use our expertise and knowledge to identify any irregularities and to locate any missing documentation.

We can present our findings in a variety of formats, according to our client’s needs. Where a full CPR Report is needed, we prepare compliant reports and attend the trial where required, to explain our findings to the Court as expert witnesses. Where our client does not require a CPR Report for use in Court but, instead, needs our input to understand their client’s position or for use in settlement negotiations, we can prepare Desktop Reports, Letters of Advice, Reviews of Claims or White Label Schedules.
