Marc heads up the Crime, POCA and Fraud team at Frenkels Forensic, he has a team of forensic managers and analysts operating through our Lichfield and London offices, who assist him primarily with the analysis/investigation as part of his caseload.
Marc also leads on cases involving Computer Forensics, which can often form part of a larger investigation where, for example, bespoke IT skills are required to gain access to financial (or other relevant) data. This could range from ethical hacking (to access data) of smartphones to the extraction of electronic point of sale (“EPOS”) data for deeper analysis (within databases such as SQL).
Marc has been a part of the team at Frenkels Forensics since 2010 and became Partner in late 2022. His combination of computer forensics and financial analysis skills has proven particularly useful on many occasions. One example of this is when he identified files containing financial records within a forensic image of a hard drive which had been overlooked by the Prosecution’s computer experts. By identifying, extracting, analysing and summarising the data, he was able to demonstrate that it was a more comprehensive and reliable source of financial material than that relied on by the Prosecution’s forensic accountants, resulting in the Defendant avoiding a custodial sentence.
Marc enjoys incredibly varied work, ranging from the review of stock and EPOS data in a complaint alleging theft from a small retail premises to the analysis of derivative trading records, to the analysis of over 160 inter-related bank accounts (some 180,000 transactions) in a complex money laundering case.
Marc has been involved in several high-profile cases, including a matter of fraud by staff at a large London-based transport authority and recently another matter involving a £400million fraud involving the off plan purchase of holiday properties at various resorts worldwide.
Marc devised and created the original online Frenkels Ogden Calculator (a tool that assisted with the calculation of losses). This has since been replaced with the arrival of Frenkels Calculator.
He has attended court on many occasions, both as an expert witness and a shadow expert, and has given evidence under cross-examination.
Marc has an honours degree in Computer Science and is a professional member of the British Computer Society. He is a general affiliate of the Institute for Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (“ICAEW”) and is a member of the Academy of Experts in the field of financial and data analysis.
Prior to joining Frenkels Forensics, Marc spent 17 years working with various law firms and motor insurers, within claims investigation, litigation and operational management.
